Trendy Entertainment announced via the PlayStation Blog the "Online Tower Defense Action Role Playing Game" Dungeon Defenders, a quite promising PSN title coming to PS3 this winter with both PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D support.
Playable with up to other 3 people both offline (via split-screen) and online, Dungeon Defenders puts you in control of one of four unique Hero classes, tasked with defending "Eternia Crystals" against increasing waves of "toon-fantasy baddies". You deal with the latter by both attacking them directly with your character's weapons/magic as well as by building defenses across the map (hence the Tower Defense part).
It sounds like a quite deep game, with customizable, upgradable classes, equipments and special abilities. You'll even have the opportunity to rise your own digital pet.
As for Move and 3D support, this is what the developers have shared thus far:
About Move, "basically the mouse acts like a aiming cursor, allowing to aim anywhere in 3D space. With just the gamepad, your hero uses some intelligent autoaiming, but with the Move you get to pinpoint your attacks exactly (with the option for some autoaiming still so that it’s not too challenging). It also helps for the placement of Towers, so that you can quickly move and rotate them in 3D space. Finally, it makes all the UI’s “cursor-driven”, so that you can interact with them a bit more naturally".
About 3D mode, we know the drill already, but there is an interesting bit to point out, which reads as follows: "We’ve currently got splitscreen in 3D mode; as you imagine, it appears like multiple tunnels into your tv. We’re thinking of leaving it in, and just leaving it up to the player if they want to go for that".
Pretty cool uh?
On a side note, Dungeon Defenders will also support multiple PSN log-ins during offline multiplayer sessions, meaning participants will be able to use their own developed characters and feed their respective trophy collections.
You can read more about Dungeon Defenders at the above linked PlayStation Blog post as well as on the official website.
And of course there is an announcement trailer too...
